The Challenge

Fujitsu wanted to demonstrate their Social Digital Twin technology in action. Working closely with Studio 62, we developed visuals to bring the technology to life, which digitally replicates transport patterns to analyse everything from commuter behaviours and traffic flow to environmental impact. The challenge was building visuals with enough depth to communicate this across different transport types and at city scale, while keeping the messaging clear around cost savings, sustainability and efficiency.

The Solution

I built a full 3D city complete with vehicles, pedestrians and infrastructure, then transformed it into its digital twin. As the city shifts into this digital view, data overlays appear showing journey routes, traffic patterns and people moving through the transport network. That shift from physical to digital mirrors exactly what the technology does in the real world. To make the city feel real, I layered in motion captured pedestrians, varied vegetation and a mix of vehicle types to give every scene a sense of life and authenticity.

Process

The storyboard and styleframes were developed simultaneously, allowing me to work out the narrative flow while exploring the visual direction at the same time. The client wanted a European city feel, a mix of modern and older architectural styles, so I used both stages to figure out how that balance would look and make sure the city felt grounded before moving into full production.

Production

The biggest challenge was making the city feel alive. Because the project centred on transport, the streets needed to be filled with cars, buses, bikes, e-scooters and pedestrians all moving at once. Each vehicle was rigged to follow road paths and the pedestrian animations were driven by motion capture to keep the movement feeling natural and realistic.

Project Scope

This project grew into an ongoing collaboration, with the assets being repurposed across multiple videos for different partners and initiatives. The animations were adapted for both large-format event displays and social media content, each tailored to highlight different aspects of the technology including cost savings, environmental benefits and transport efficiency.

Jake Parkin Studio 62

Studio 62 have worked collaboratively with MAW Creative over 10 years which has ensured our clients visions are brought to life. Mike's conceptual pedigree and ability to visualise the hypothetical are second to none. Each project has always been delivered to an extremely high visual standard.
